Elevation covers the end wall of the Wartling Road community centre with a raised lattice of overlapping posed life sized figure outlines. Each individual figure is the outline of an individual member of the Wartling Road community.
The figures were collected on the day the community centre was opened; the flying outlines were all taken from the people prepared to bounce upon a trampoline.
The work is made of brushed stainless steel. The reflective surface of the materials respond to the available light, as light moves over the surface the appearance of the work varies due to the reflection of light from the material and the shadow cast by the lines onto the wall.
The square grid is based upon the proportions of the wall and introduces a fixed geometry into the mass of overlapping figure outlines, thus the geometry of the building combined with proportions of the community completes the sculpture.
