  • Ferrum Vertex is a mathematical object, the form is derived from a truncated ovoid, twice as high as it is wide. To locate the vertices required, a 3m high ovoid was sliced horizontally into 10 equal height layers and the resulting circle for each layer was transformed into a dodecagon (12 sided polygon). In plan view the dodecagons were rotated in relation to each other so that joining adjacent vertices created arrangements of spiraling triangles. There are two sets of triangles created by joining different vertices, one set of triangles spiral gently anticlockwise at 6 degrees, the other sharper set of triangles spiral clockwise at  54 degrees. The sculpture is a result of the dynamic tension between the two sets of triangles and the omission of triangles to create the openings.
